1. The Magnolia Sisters were nominated for a Grammy this year for their newest CD, “Stripped Down”, on Arhoolie Records. Ann Savoy also recorded a Grammy nominated CD with legendary pop idol Linda Ronstadt, "Adieu False Heart". She also appeared in the major Hollywood film “Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood” and has three songs on the Sony soundtrack of the movie.
2. The Magnolia Sisters is one of the only all woman Cajun bands in existence. Their music ranges from kitchen music to rollicking dancehall breakdowns. Folklore Societies, Blues Societies, Women’s Movement audiences would be good to target as audiences.
3. The Sisters perform many old ballads in accapella harmony. They can give workshops on ballad singing, the evolution of Cajun music, and many other themes. They also can do school presentations about Cajun music, including project worksheets and song games that accompany their childrens CD, “Lapin, Lapin”.
CREATE A MAJOR EVENT:
The excitement and newsworthiness of an appearance by the Magnolia Sisters can be greatly augmented by making the evening a Cajun dinner and adding a Mardi Gras costume contest.
